In 2008, real estate broker and author David Winans coined the term Texaplex and produced a video extolling the benefits of living and working in Texas. Focussing on Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio—the cities which make up the Texaplex—the video quickly went viral and has garnered nearly 200,000 views to date.
The Texaplex video caused such a stir that it was even picked up by the national (and international) media, with mentions on NBC, The Economist, Newsweek, and several other major publications. It was endorsed by the Texas Governor’s office and the creators of the video were even invited to meet with Governor Rick Perry and discuss why Texas is the best place in America to live, work, and raise a family.
Texas boasts a pro-growth tax policy offering no state income tax, a low tax burden for businesses, and sensible laws and regulations. This is drawing an increasing number of American firms to relocate to Texas. Two primary drivers for growth are jobs and affordable housing. The Lone Star State is blessed with both.
Viewed through the lens of history and the waves of growth that came before, the book take a deeper look at what draws so many individuals and businesses to the region in this current wave of growth.
Texas is America’s new land of opportunity.
